At the City Council meeting Tuesday evening there was an exciting announcement.
A company called "Pinal Power" is going to build a bio-fuel plant in Maricopa. The plant will be located on the Maricopa - Casa Grande highway next to the current ethanol plant. This plant is to create 30 megawatts of baseload power (about the usage of 35k homes) by burning green waste that typically just gets thrown away. They expect to divert 30% of the landscape and crop waste from landfills in the Phoenix and Tucson area.
This is great news for our environment...not to mention the approximately 15 million in annual tax revenue that will go to our City. No word on if this means future rate relief for our community...however I would expect this could be such if ED3 can buy less from APS. The plant will be located next to a ED3 substation so ED3 can provide the distrubition network for the new electricity.
